In Russia, Le comte Ory had only been heard only once, in 1839 in Petersburg. During the following 150 years, the opera was bypassed, with opera producers preferring The Barber of Seville to it and the large number of other Rossini operas. The performance in Yekaterinburg of the Le comte Ory was forgotten.
The leading character of the opera is seeking the love of the beautiful countess Adèle, who, in the absence of her brother-crusader, made a vow of chastity and, for this purpose, she dresses as a folk healer or a nun. Gioacchino Antonio Rossini approached this story with all the Italian compositional sophistication and humor. His Russian colleagues, stage directors, composed an extraordinarily light, stylish and plastically exquisite performance, consistent with the style of bel canto – the style of "beautiful singing", that the opera was written in 1828.
