The opera L'elisir d’amore was written by Gaetano Donizetti in 1831 to a libretto by Felice Romani, based on the French libretto by Eugene Scribe. The opera in two acts became the fortieth in the composer's work: it was written in just two weeks. The genre of the opera is a cheerful melodrama, as Donizetti himself suggested calling it. The action takes place in an Italian village of the XIX century. The plot is based on a classic love conflict: Nemorino is in love with the village beauty Adina, but she does not reciprocate him. The appearance of Belcore and the quack Doctor Dulcamara spins an intrigue, and a series of funny misunderstandings leads the characters to a happy ending. The play will be played in the conditional 1950s, which attracted the directors with their lightness, carelessness, and hope for a happy future.
