Vladimir Bocharov, Yekaterinburg composer, created many works for children – one of them is Morozko that is written for the youngest spectators. It is good to begin acquaintance with the opera from this performance: the dynamic action is designed as a sequence of musical numbers and conversational scenes, in addition to adult singers there are children's choir and dancers on the stage, meanwhile the costumes and scenery remind of time-honored films-fairytales by Alexander Rou and Aleksandr Ptushko. And the winter forester Morozko comes out in the auditorium to greet the audience.
In a cold frost, Dunyasha, who is despised by her stepmother, was sent to the forest for brushwood. The girl was almost frozen, but the forester Morozko sheltered her in his house. Grateful Dunyasha weaved him the carpet, and he generously endowed her and helped to return home. The greedy stepmother, seeing the gifts of Morozko, sent Frosya, her beloved daughter, into the dense forest – having decided that for her beauty she would receive more gifts than Dunyasha. But Froska angered Morozko with her negligence and the old man drove her out of the woods, leaving nothing.
