Pavel Kodeda

Set Designer

Born in 1978 in Hradec Králové, Czech republic. After graduation on grammar school (1996), he has studied on the department of Stage and Costume design (prof. Albert Pražák) and on the departments of Theatre Antropology (prof. Vladimír Mikeš) and Alternative and Puppet Theatre (prof. Petr Matásek) on the Theatre Faculty of Academy of Performing Arts in Prague.

Since 1998, during the studies, has worked under a stipendium of Linhart‘s Foundation for Experimental Space ROXY Prague as a designer, where he co-operated on the image of this independent alternative venue and its events and visuals, combining scenography, light design, new media and graphic design.

Since year 2001 has been working as stage, costume and video designer for many czech theatres including big venues as National theatre Prague (L. Norén: The Human Circle 3:1; video), J. K. Tyl Theatre Pilsen (F. Kafka: America, stage design; G. Puccini: Madama Butterfly, stage design and video), Vinohrady Theatre (H. Ibsen: An Enemy of the People, stage design), main mid-size and regional theatres (Klicpera‘s Theatre Hradec Králové, National Moravian-Silesian Theatre, West Bohemian Theatre Cheb, South Bohemian Theatre České Budějovice), for the well-known czech puppets‘ and kids‘ theatres (Alfa Theatre Pilsen, Naive Theatre Liberec, Minor theatre Prague) as well as for many independent theatres and groups.

Aside of his work for the theatres, he is also constantly engaged in graphic, visual and exposition design (e.g. National museum, The Museum of Pilgrimage), and designing other cultural or social indoor, open-air or site-specific events.
